Mission Statement

The mission of the Arkansas Geographic Alliance is to:

  1. Create geographically literate students who have knowledge of and appreciation and respect for diverse cultures, places, and environments and the interrelationships that connect them; and, have the geographic skills needed to navigate and thrive in an interconnected global society.
  2. Broaden and deepen teachers' knowledge of diverse cultures, places, and environments and the interrelationships that connect them; and, provide professional development and networking opportunities for teachers.
  3. Improve and expand parental engagement in geography education.
  4. Increase public awareness of geography; improve community engagement in geography education; and, inspire people to care about Earth and to become stewards of world resources.
  5. Increase the number of students enrolled in geography courses; increase the amount of geography education offered in schools; restore geography education in the classroom; and, amplify the status of geography in state education standards.
